INSPIRE, TEACH & GUIDE
It is mentally, emotionally, and physically draining to care for someone with a disability. Like a new baby, the injured person doesn't come with a user's manual, troubleshooting recommendations, or service providers' contact information. The suggestions and basic information provided in the early recovery phases didn't extend far enough into the future, leaving us, and others like us, to scramble and search for necessary resources. Caregivers don't know what to look for, where to find it, or how to pay for it. There are many things I wish I had known as a backdrop for what I might or would face down the long road ahead. I hope this page will provide useful information for others facing uncertain times.
I Define resources as anything that will educate, equip, and guide you on your journey. See Techniques for resources that are therapeutic in nature.
AARP knows that caregiving may be one of the most important and challenging roles you’ll ever take on.
No matter where you are in your caregiving journey — whether you're starting to plan, caring for a family member in your home, in a facility, or from a distance, or managing end-of-life caregiving responsibilities — having resources at your fingertips will make the process easier.
AARP developed this family caregiver guide with you, the caregiver, in mind, as a starting point to help you find the services and support you may need throughout your journey.
